The Good News ... Aug. 31, 2008

Did you know? Solar Electricity and its related industries are growing by leaps and bounds. Global solar cell production is doubling every two years and new technologies are coming online as we speak. Solar power is the world’s fastest growing energy industry.

Recent Innovations
Just two weeks ago, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (US DOE) announced a photo voltaic cell with 40.8% energy conversion, more than triple the energy conversion of common cells today. In Spain, the world's first solar thermal power plant is up and running -- expected to power all 180,000 houses in Seville by 2013. And "nano solar" looks near-term.

Solar Everywhere
In Texas, home of GoodCommonSense, we're seeing PV installations on everything from homes to military bases, prisons to schools, coffee shops to beer factories, and parking lots to country clubs. The prospect of:
#1 achieving energy independence, #2 converting a long term investment into wealth, and #3 eliminating global warming emissions -- is crossing over.

The Good News
According to Lester Brown, there's enough solar energy in 12,000 acres of Nevada desert to power the entire United States year-round. According to Ray Kurzweil, there's enough electricity in just 0.03% of sunlight that touches the earth everyday to power the world ... It's not just the smart guys at Google who've figured this one out, people everywhere are warming to the ideas of: solar PV & concentrated solar thermal electricity; solar pool and home hot water heating; passive solar design; solar air conditioning; nano-solar technology and more. Simple ideas, sustainable investments, Good Common Sense!
